#The Motherland….is the hashtag of the upcoming exuberant Celebrate Africa Carnival and Festival.

The Media briefing held at the SABC in Durban where Mahlobo performed lovely musical pieces of solidarity from great names like Hugh Masekela – Thuma Mina Nkosi and Bob Marley – One Love. In the opening moments of the proceedings Lady Zanele Mbokazi lightened the event in declaring the diversity of Africa, the mother land and introduced the festivals project manager.

Njabulo Sokhela, project manager of the event warmed up the place with welcoming all the media houses and acknowledging their presence “it is with the media that events go to better lengths” he said.

As he welcomed all representatives from the different countries in the motherland, he mentioned how they all vowed their support, countries like Cameroon, Nigeria, Zimbabwe Ghana, Burundi, Swaziland, Lesotho, Ivory Coast etc, all agreed to a “No to xenophobia, afro phobia” policy and zero tolerance for fellow African brother hate.

“On the 26th of May, Durban will be at a standstill as this will be our day for showcasing Africa’s unity in the carnival” he added as he allowed other representatives to come offer words of support.

Jeffery, a spokesperson from Nigeria said, he is behind the festivities and believes in the uniqueness of the motherland. Godfrey Katomara, the Zimbabwean representative mentioned that the Zimbabwean community believe in love, unity and oneness in the motherland.

“Fun filled day with excitement” were the words of Brother Onyeze, describing how the day would be.

Bishop Khambule and his Partner promised to grace the day with goodness and blessings.

26th May Saturday Morning 9am is assemble time, 10am the parade kicks off

  • At North beach to Pine Street (Monty Niacker Rd) & Aliwal Street (Samora Mache St)
  • Food stalls will be set up in the street
  • 10 African countries will be participating

On the day there will be Exhibitions to showcase African trade from 2-7pm

Bigger picture in the idea of this carnival is to bring unity and learn to trade in house first before we go to other continents outside Africa.

There will also be African musical talent on show on the day with a concert. Entrance will be 100% free.
